Luke Evans and Justin Theroux Replace Chris Evans and Jared Leto in THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN

Emily Blunt is starring in a film adaptation of the mega-hit novel The Girl on the Train, and she's bringing Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Edgar Ramirez, and Allison Janney along with her. Director Tate Taylor (The Help) was eyeing Chris Evans and Jared Leto for major supporting roles, but unfortunately scheduling issues prevented both of them from officially coming on board. Now Taylor has found his replacements: THR reports that Luke Evans and Justin Theroux have officially signed on.

Here's a quick refresher for those who aren't familiar with the story:

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

Theroux will play Ferguson's husband and Evans (that's Luke, not Chris) will play Bennett's. THR's plot summary gets a bit more spoilery than I'd have liked, so feel free to click over there if you're dying for any more slivers of details about the plot. I can't help but feel like Luke Evans and Justin Theroux are downgrades from Chris Evans and Jared Leto, but once these kinds of things happen all of the time and when the final movie comes out, it's hard to imagine the characters being played by anyone other than the person who actually embodied them on screen, so hopefully Taylor can bring this best-seller to life in a memorable and exciting way.

Production is already underway, and The Girl on the Train pulls into theaters on October 7th, 2016.
