James McAvoy Cast as Professor X in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS! I'm Serious!
Wow! I didn't see this coming at all! James McAvoy (Wanted) is the first actor to officially be cast in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, and he will take on the role of Professor X! Obviously he will play a much younger version of the character. But this is some pretty crazy casting!
According to Fox, X-Men First Class will take us down the road of the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.
I seriously don't know what to think about this casting decision. McAvoy is a decent actor and he's fun to watch up on screen, so I'm sure he'll do great in the role, I just didn't think they would go that young. But they have, and it's definitely sparked my interest!
Bryan Singer came up with the story for the film that is being made, and Fox is looking to start shooting in London this Summer for a June 3rd, 2011 release date.
I now open the floor up to you fine folks. What do you think about James McAvoy being cast a Professor X?
