Weinstein Co. buys world rights to Paul Thomas Anderson's next film

The Weinstein Company has purchased the world distribution rights to Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled next film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. Deadline reports that the they won the rights after an aggressive bidding war. Madisen Beaty (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Amy Adams, Laura Dern and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Lena Endre are on the list of actresses that Anderson is considering for roles.

The long gestating project was once titled, The Master. Anderson did a massive script edit which has Hoffman playing "a man who returns after witnessing the horrors of WWII and tries to rediscover who he is in post-war America. He creates a belief system, something that catches on with other lost souls." Universal was once attached to finance the film, but stepped away. Megan Ellison then came in and has allowed Anderson to make the movie for the budget of $35 million. Production begins on June 13 and marks Anderson's first directing gig since There Will Be Blood. 

I am a fan of Anderson's films and Hoffman. Phoenix is a solid actor. The list of actresses being considered is also great. I would love to see Amy Adams in a role. This sounds like a film I will enjoy and am forward to learning more about this project. What are your thoughts on this news?
