MAN OF STEEL Writer Talks about his Naturalistic Approach

One of the main reasons that I'm so excited about seeing Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is because the creative team that brought us the Dark Knight trilogy developed the story. Christopher Nolan cracked it with David S. Goyer, who wrote the script as well. 

There wasn't very much shown in the recent teaser, but it gives us a little taste of the grittiness of the story, and the human side of Superman. One thing they wanted to do with this film was approach the character in a way so that the audience could relate to him. In a recent interview with Bad Taste It, Goyer explained their naturalistic approach to Superman and how they basically did the same thing they did with Batman....

What Christopher Nolan and I have done with Superman is trying to bring the same naturalistic approach that we used adopted for the Batman trilogy. We always had a naturalistic approach, we want [our] stories to be rooted in reality, like they could happen in the same world we live in. It's not that easy with Superman, and actually this doesn't necessarily mean we will make a dark movie. But working on this reboot we are thinking about what would happen if a story like this one actually happened. How would people react to this? What impact would the presence of Superman [have] in the real world? What I really like [doing] is writing "genre" stories without a cartoonish element.

Sounds like the movie will be a lot less comic booky than what Marvel is currently doing with their properties, which is fine! We need a little more comic book movie variety. I loved what they did with Batman, so hopefully this approach works for Superman as well. I'm excited that this is going to end up being unlike any other Superman we've seen before. I loved the extended footage of the film I saw at Comic-Con, and I can't wait to see more! Hopefully you get to see a little bit more of the film by the end of the year.
