THE AVENGERS Review - Biggest Movie Event Ever

This review is spoiler free....

I've been reporting on Marvel's The Avengers for a couple of years now. I've been posting news, sharing videos, photos, trailers and TV spots. As it's gotten closer and closer to the release date, I've been throwing up an average of two Avengers articles a day, especially over the last three or four months. Every time I've posted something I got even more excited for this movie! By the time I actually saw it, my excitement level was on maximum overload! If someone would have stuck a pin in me I would have exploded on a nuclear level, and probably taken out most of southern California in a blast of epic proportions. That gives you an idea of what my expectations were for Joss Whedon's movie.

I don't think I've ever had such high expectations for a film before. So it's crazy for me to say that not only did The Avengers meet my expectations, but it exceeded them. Believe the hype my friends, this movie is the real deal and in my opinion it's the best superhero movie that's been made to date… ever. That includes Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight which use to hold the top spot on my list. The Avengers was epically awesome in every possible way you can imagine. This is a film that causes the audeince to want to jump up and cheer.

I couldn't have asked for a better story or script, they were perfect. Joss Whedon took the best out of what we love about these characters and this world, and packed it all into an incredible package of greatness. This film could have so easily been all over the place, but it wasn't. The story was organized perfectly ,and you never lost sight of what was going on. There was never any confusion, just pure overload of enjoyment.

The action scenes in the film are some of the best and most epic sequences I've ever seen. It was non-stop. There was so much awesomeness exploding all over the screen and into our eyeballs, but like the story it was easy to follow. The action was easy to take in and digest regardless of all the insanity unfolding before my eyes. The final battle sequence in the movie is almost an hour long, and it was amazing. It was also incredible that they were able to pull that off the way they did.

Taking the film to a whole other level is the fact that there is a very long stretch of the film that actually takes place in real time, with no time jumps. I believe as soon as the Avengers team are on the Helicarrier the movie starts playing in real time, which I thought was incredible. You know who can make a better action film than Michael Bay? Joss Whedon.

It's like Whedon is the best of all of our favorite filmmakers. It's crazy that it took him so long to get a shot like this. But The Avengers is exactly what he needed. Hell! It's exactly what we needed! I don't think anyone else would have been able to pull off this movie so effectively well as he did. Whedon has proved that he truly is one of the great filmmakers of our time with this film, and he's got an incredible future of filmmaking ahead of him. I'm so happy for Whedon, he truly deserves this.

I was thinking about it, and it's like Whedon had been preparing himself for this moment. The story follows a group of heroes trying to save the world from an evil force that would invade earth through a portal;  portal that the team needs to stop from opening. This is something he did time and time again with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They were always trying to keep a portal from opening to save the world. The Avengers is just on a much bigger and epic scale.

As I expected, Bruce Banner and the Hulk ended up stealing the show and was my favorite character in the movie. Mark Ruffalo played the character brilliantly, and now that I've seen the performance I think he's the best hulk we've seen so far out of Eric Bana and Edward Norton. Rufallo seriously gave a definitive Hulk performance that you're all going to love. That being said everyone did an amazing job in the film!

Robert Downey Jr. once again played Tony Stark perfectly, and I loved his relationship with Bruce Banner. I would love to see a movie exploring just the two of those characters. Stark didn't get along will with Steve Rogers though. They kind of had a rocky relationship because their personalities were the complete opposite of each other, which made for a great dynamic. Chris Evans was also fun to watch as Captain America again, seeing him in this modern world setting with these other characters was very fun. His character takes a leadership position in the story which is fun to see explored because he's a very naive, straight forward, boy scout kind of character.

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) also had a interesting relationship that was explored in the story. It made for some great drama, and both actors were great in their roles. There was one seen in-particular in which Black Widow confronted Loki to have a chat regarding Hawkeye. It went in a direction I didn't see coming and it was extremely intense, and shows you how freakin' evil Loki can be. Speaking of which, Tom Hiddleston was once again incredible in this villainous role! He plays such an awesome villain it's ridiculous. After seeing The Avengers, I'm sold on a stand alone Black Widow movie. Johansson not only kicked ass, but she did it looking incredibly hot.

Of course, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is there to help try and stop Loki from destroying the planet, and bring him back to Asgard. It's hard to see Hemsworth in anything else other than Thor, because HE IS Thor. It was fun watching Thor interact with the other characters, he's just so out of his element. I guess in a way all of these characters are out of their element, but they all have one thing in common, and that's to kick ass and save the world.

Every Avenger had their share of screen time in the film, one didn't get more than the other. They were all created equally and given some fantastic scenes that fit their character's personalities perfectly. And they all got to interact with each other in one way or another.

It's really hard to pick out a favorite scene in this movie, because every scene was my favorite. There wasn't one point in the movie where I wasn't wowed. Even when there was no action and the characters were just talking it was great because the dialogue was written and acted out so well. It's just an all around amazingly entertaining movie. I'm just so overly happy with the outcome of The Avengers. I was hooked from the very opening scene to the very end of the closing credits scene. You won't want to miss a single second of this film. There is no place for you to take a bathroom break either because if you leave I can guarantee you'll miss something you would have wanted to see.

You will love this movie. I don't see how anyone can't. It's got everything we love about the movies, and more. It was created in the best way possible. This might just end up being one of the biggest movie events ever. I seriously can't believe Marvel and Whedon actually pulled this off. It's hard to think that we'll ever see anything like this happen again. I guess if it does, it will happen with an Avengers sequel.

Prepare to be blown away! And make sure to go pee before the movie so you don't have to go during it.
