KICK-ASS 2 To Be Directed by Jeff Waldow at Universal

It looks like we've got some actual news on where the Kick-Ass 2 movie currently stands. We recently heard from comic artist John Romita Jr., who said that the sequel would start shooting this summer for a release date of May 2013. Today Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures is in talks with Jeff Waldow to direct the film from a script that he wrote.

The studio hopes to get the film into production by this August, and they are in discussions Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse to come back and reprise their roles.

I'm not really familiar with Waldow's previous film work, but he's directed a few films such as Never Back Down and Cry Wolf. Who knows what his vision of this gritty real life superhero world will be like, but I'm happy we are going to see a sequel. I loved Matthew Vaughn's first film. He self funded the film, and made it the way he wanted. The fact that this movie is landing at Universal tells us the sequel will have a lot more studio control.

I guess we can expect a deal to close fairly soon. What do you think of Kick-Ass 2 moving forward without Vaughn?
