THE INVISIBLE MAN Actor Aldis Hodge Cast as Hawkman in DC's BLACK ADAM Movie
Up until this point, the only name that we’ve seen rumored to be attached to the Hawkman role in DC Entertainment's Black Adam film is Alexander Skarsgard. Well, it looks like Warner Bros. and director Jaume Collet-Serra are going in a different direction.
Deadline is reporting that Aldis Hodge (The Invisible Man) is now in talks to join Dwayne Johnson in the film as Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman. If cast, he will also join Noah Centineo, who is set to play Atom Smasher. Other members of the Justice Society of America appearing in the film include Doctor Fate and Cyclone.
Hodge seems like he’ll be a solid first for the role, and it will be interesting to see what the design for the character will look like in the film.
Hawkman was a reincarnation of an Ancient Egyptian prince named Khufu. “He discovered that the ‘ninth metal’ could negate the effects of gravity, allowing him to fly. Carter decided to fight crime with his new found ability, so he created a costume which had large wings to help himself control his flight powers in the air. Since Hall was an archaeologist and historian in his everyday life, he took medieval weapons from the museum he worked at to help his fight for justice.”
When previously talking about the film, Johnson explained that his character isn't your typical DC Comics hero, saying:
"There are many variations and iterations of Black Adam that we have all fallen in love with over the years, and what I can promise you is a Black Adam that I feel in my heart is the right one to root our story in the beginning, this origin story. This is a character that will possess all the qualities that we have loved, regardless of what variation of Black Adam you've loved."
Johnson went on to describe the character as a "ruthless keeper of justice." He also said, "He is the judge, the jury, and the executioner, and he believes in an eye for an eye. He will always do everything he can to protect his people, more so protect his family."
Black Adam will hit theaters on December 22, 2021.
