Alfred Meets Thomas Wayne in New Trailer For The Batman-Inspired Series PENNYWORTH
We’ve got a new teaser trailer to share with you today for the upcoming Batman universe-inspired series called Pennyworth. The series comes from Gotham producer Bruno Heller and it will put the focus on a young version of Alfred Pennyworth, the man who will one day become Batman's most trusted ally.
The new trailer features Alfred (Jack Bannon) meeting Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) for the first time. As you might expect, Wayne wants him to help out with a few things.
Epix also announced that Pennyworth would be airing its first episode on July 28th at 9pm. The first season will consist of 10 one-hour episodes. I’m actually looking forward to this show, it looks like it’s gonna be good!
Pennyworth follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred, a former British SAS soldier in his 20s who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire, Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) in 1960s London. Here’s a description of Alfred:
Bannon’s Pennyworth is a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty; you’d never take him for an SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.
Bannon looks good in the role! The show is being developed by executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist, Rome) and executive producer and director Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI series). According to Cannon, the series will be an “Unhinged, R-rated” series. He also explained:
"It’s twentysomething years before Gotham, it’s a very different world; this is the DC version of 1960s London. 13 degrees history is different: It’s not the England we know. It looks and feels like, but if you look a little closer, (you ask) why is that like that? Why is that building there? What war is he talking about?"
He also explained that while Alfred won’t be fighting any classic Batman villains, there will be "archetypal villains and classic villains of British literature; they’re all available to us." He went on to tease that Alfred could find himself up against the descendants of Jack the Ripper.
