ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS is Releasing a Big Update Including Data Transfers This Week
Nintendo has a big update releasing this week for Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch. The update includes fun holiday-themed goodness for 3 holidays, a home storage upgrade option, new reactions and hairstyles, the ability to transfer data to a new Nintendo Switch, and more. There’s a lot to unpack, but here we go. The update will be live on November 19.
First, we’ve got Turkey Day on November 26. First-class chef Franklin will arrive on your island on this date and you can help gather ingredients for display dishes. Franklin has a special thank you gift for those who help him.
Second, Toy Day is happening on December 24. On Toy Day, Jingle will visit your island and you can help him deliver presents to score a gift for yourself. In addition, the island will become gradually more decorated, trees will gain ornaments that you can shake off for holiday DIY crafts, and from December 1-25 you can head over to Nook’s Cranny to purchase toys or holiday-themed clothes from Able Sisters.
Third, between December 26-31, festive items to celebrate New Year’s will become available. There will also be a special countdown event starting at 7 PM on December 31. This sounds like a great way for family and friends to safely ring in the new year.
Next, players will be able to redeem Nook Miles for nine new reactions or 6 new hairstyles. There will also be a new option to visit random islands in your dreams. This could help spark some new levels of creativity for many players. In addition, if you have a linked Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp account, you can score a special Pocket Camp model smartphone. If you’ve fully upgraded your house, you will also be able to become indebted to the tyrannical Tom Nook once more to upgrade your home storage to 2,400 slots.
Finally, the biggest part of the update in my opinion, data transfers. With the new update, players will be able to move their save data to a new Nintendo Switch system. The Resident Representative can move the entire island including all of its residents to a new Nintendo Switch system. If you’re not the Resident Representative, you can move your individual character along with their inventory, home, and most of their storage to a different island. If the new Nintendo Switch does not have save data already, then you’ll create a brand new island to explore, otherwise, you’ll just join the existing island. Keep in mind that you need access to both Nintendo Switch consoles and the Resident Representative cannot do the individual transfer.
