AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM's Dolph Lundgren Was Disappointed His Role Was Reduced in the Film
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom co-star Dolph Lundgren has confirmed that prior to the film’s reshoots, his character King Nereus and Amber Heard's Mera had bigger roles.
As most of you know, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom went through some extensive reshoots after Warner Bros. decided to start over with their DC films and hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead the charge on that.
In a new interview with UPI, Lundgren shared his thoughts on the film saying, "My opinion is that I thought the original script was great. I was a bigger part of it and Amber Heard was a bigger part of it. The studio decided, I guess, to just reshoot a bunch of footage to try to rebuild a slightly different storyline. That's tricky because you can't reshoot the whole movie."
On top of Lundgren and Heard’s roles being cut down, director James Wan also cut out Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne from the film. After that, Ben Affleck stepped in to film a Batman cameo and then that was removed as well with the final edit. Wan and WB decided it would be best to remove Batman altogether.
Lundgren went on to say: "When you start inserting different story elements into something [with which] there was a unity that worked, then you can get in trouble. It was a little frustrating for me. I felt a little disappointed, but life goes on."
In the end, none of it matters. That’s the last Aquaman movie, and the last film to be released in the DCEU.
