BLACK ADAM Producer Says They Will Honor the Character by Turning Him Into a Monster

Dwayne Johnson has been hyping up his DC film Black Adam for a long time saying stuff like, "The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change." I’ve been curious about seeing what how exactly this character will be handled in the film. The character is a hardcore supervillain, and I’ve been wondering if that aspect of the character would be softened up for the film, kinda like what Sony did with Venom.

Well, according to producer Hiram Garcia, who is also the President of Production at Seven Bucks Productions, the character will be as vicious as fans have been hoping. In a recent interview with CB, he said:

"I will tell you that I'm glad you dug the FanDome piece. It was really important for us to set the table and make sure that all the fans knew that we weren't messing around, and that we weren't making a soft Black Adam. It was important for us to show that the first guy who approaches him is no longer on the planet. I think that sets the tone that this isn't a broad movie, this isn't Shazam!, or anything like that."

He goes on to say that they will honor the character in the film by turning him into a monster. Garcia explains:

"We take it very serious. The edge that Black Adam has, if you are a threat, there's probably not a chance you're going to get to breathe another breath around this guy. And I think that, that was really important for us to just make a statement and make sure everyone understood. Look, we know what you guys want. We know what this character is supposed to be. We're going to do our best to make sure that we honor that and turn him into a monster."

That might just be the most exciting thing that I’ve heard about the film. That’s exactly what I want to see from this character that’s the kind of statement that’s gonna get me pumped up for the movie! Director Jaume Collet-Serra recently presented his director’s cut of the film and in regards to that cut, Garcia said:

"Well you know any director's cut is chunky, right? That's the director's cut. It's always going to be nice and chunky. So we're going to put that thing on the treadmill, get it nice and lean, but it was awesome. I've got to tell you, it's really fired up to see a movie that early. There's nothing in it, no effects, and for it to still be that much fun, and to sit there and lean back and go, 'Okay, we've got something fun here.' I'm fired up, man. I think you're going to dig it."

He went on to praise Johnson’s work in the film saying:

"DJ's so good as Black Adam, the entire cast is so good, but DJ was born to play this guy, and you can just see him having so much fun playing this force of nature that just changes the landscape of the DC universe. It was awesome, man. I'm really excited. I think you're going to really dig it."

Black Adam also stars Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man), who plays Hawkman in the film, and he and Johnson are joined by Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I Love Before, Charlie's Angels) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate, as well as Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, The L Word), Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), who have been cast in unspecified roles.

When asked if any other DC characters would be introduced in the movie, Garcia wouldn’t say. He just said that “it’s all a secret.”

Black Adam will hit theaters on July 29th, 2022 and it sounds like we’re going to really dig it.
