Bold Infographic Illustrates the On-Screen Tenure of Each Doctor
This neat infographic compares the tenures of each of Doctor Who’s eleven Doctors. Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, it doesn’t count the War Doctor, and it is based on screen time, not years as the Doctor or number of seasons, which would look very different and open up debates about whether the years the show was not on the air counted toward a particular Doctor’s total (This is controversial. If you count the years between the end of the show and Sylvester McCoy’s regeneration into Paul McGann, McCoy has the longest tenure, but a British game show marked that as an incorrect answer to the question, so…). Anyway, by this measure, Tom Baker is far and away the longest-serving Doctor, followed by the original Doctor, William Hartnell. Let’s take a moment to pour one out for the dearly departed ninth Doctor, gone before his time. Where do you think Peter Capaldi will rank when he finally evaporates in a burst of light?
