Bryan Singer Explains the X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Twist That Didn't Really Affect Anything
X-Men: Days of Future Past is a good movie. I genuinely enjoyed it. There’s one part of the film though that raised some eyebrows in anticipation and we never got the pay-off we expected. At the very end of the movie, we see William Stryker get Wolverine out of the water and we all think, “ah, that’s how Wolverine ends up as part of Weapon X!” However, then we see the signature yellow eye flare that indicates the character is really Mystique posing as Stryker. This led to all sorts of speculation about what would happen to Wolverine as a result of Mystique saving him instead of Stryker and surely X-Men: Apocalypse would explore this. Nope. Instead, Wolverine still ends up as part of Weapon X with no explanation of what happened and we, the audience are left to assume that there are just some things that are bound to happen.
I was a little disappointed by the lack of development, but I just shrugged and said, “Ok.” However, years later, Bryan Singer, the director of Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, has decided to address this after seeing a post on Reddit. Singer took to Instagram to explain that the eye change was added very late in the production and he liked it as it showed Mystique’s new path of helping mutants that would carry over into Apocalypse. Did you like the reveal?
