CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION Renewed for Season 4 as Season 3 Premiere Date Is Set

Paramount+ is keeping the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) in business as Criminal Minds: Evolution has officially been renewed for a fourth season. The news comes ahead of Season 3’s premiere, which is set to drop on May 8th.

Fans had been speculating about the renewal since December when production on Season 3 wrapped. Paget Brewster, who plays Emily Prentiss, hinted at the possibility on X at the time, saying, “we are optimistic we’ll get a Season 19.”

Considering Evolution is an extension of the long-running Criminal Minds series, this upcoming season technically marks the 19th overall.

Showrunner Erica Messer previously revealed that the new 10-episode season will feature a time jump, picking up six months after the attack on Elias Voit, the Sicarius Killer. With Voit’s followers now spreading chaos through the dark web, the BAU is forced into an uneasy alliance with him—though he clearly has his own agenda.

Returning for Season 3 are Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, and RJ Hatanaka, along with Adam Rodriguez and Brewster. The question is, will Matthew Gray Gubler return as Spencer Reid?

The actor has been absent from Evolution so far, but now that he’s back working with CBS on the drama pilot Einstein, there’s speculation that he could return.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is produced by 20th Television and CBS Studios, with Erica Messer, Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon serving as executive producers.
