Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona Get Tangled in Relationship Wreckage in SPLITSVILLE Trailer
If your last group hang turned into a couples’ therapy session, Splitsville might be a movie that feels a little too real. Neon has dropped the first trailer for Michael Angelo Covino’s new comedy Splitsville, and it’s serving up an uncomfortably funny look at marriage, honesty, and the messiness that happens when you try to fix a relationship by blowing it up.
Spiltsville centers on Carey (Kyle Marvin) and Ashley (Adria Arjona), a couple barely a year into marriage and already facing the big D—divorce. When Ashley says she wants out, Carey retreats to the safe haven of his married friends Julie (Dakota Johnson) and Paul, played by Covino. Their solution? An open relationship. Naturally.
What follows is a chaotic tangle of feelings, boundaries, and crossed lines. Carey and Julie sleep together. They tell their partners. And the delicate illusion of control shatters for both couples. If the trailer is any indication, Splitsville walks a fine line between hilariously awkward and painfully honest.
The film made its debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it reportedly earned a six-minute standing ovation and plenty of laughs. Covino, reflecting on the experience, said:
“We need to keep making comedies for Cannes. Laughter should be seen in a theater, not on a television screen.”
Splitsville opens in theaters on August 22.
