Dave Bautista Says AVENGERS 4 May Change What Happens To The Guardians and He's Not Sure He'll Return For VOL. 3
With the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy in limbo with the firing of director James Gunn, there's a lot that can happen with the characters in that franchise and Dave Bautista seems to think that these issues could lead to some changes for them in Avengers 4.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been put on hold until Marvel Studios and Disney can figure out how they want to proceed. It's safe to say that they are on the hunt for a new director, but who knows what to expect when they find one. In anticipation of the changes that may come, Bautista explains to Digital Spy:
"It's kind of a strange situation to be in now where we've lost our director for Guardians. Guardians 3 is really up in the air and I don't know what they're going to do with it.
"It's on permanent hold for now, and that may make a difference in what they do with our characters in Avengers 4. To be honest with you, right now I really don't know.
"But I know I'm in Avengers 4. I've shot most of it already. I do have two days of reshoots. But other than that, I have some really great scenes that I hope they use. But I guess that it remains to be seen what they'll do with the characters."
It's not hard to believe that Marvel Studios could alter the story arc of these Guardians characters in Avengers 4 to make it easier and give a new director more freedom to craft a third Guardians film. It has been reported that Gunn's script will be used, but a new director will most likely end up re-writing it to fit their vision.
In any case, if there are any changes made to the Guardians in Avengers 4, audiences would never know because as of right now we don't know anything about the story of the film or what they are planning for the characters.
In a separate interview with The Jonathan Ross Show, Bautista also explains that he's not even sure if he wants to come back for Guardians Vol. 3 because he doesn't really want to work for Disney:
"There’s a bit of an issue. It’s a bittersweet conversation. No - it’s a bitter, bitter conversation, because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn. They’re putting the movie off. It’s on hold indefinitely. To be honest with you, I don’t know if I want to work for Disney... I’ve been very vocal about the way I feel. I’m not afraid to admit the way I feel."
What are your thoughts on what Dave Bautista had to say here? He's been so upset with Disney's decision to fire Gunn that I don't think he'd mind being killed off for real at this point.
Avengers 4 is currently set to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
