DETECTIVE PIKACHU Writers Confirm the Movie Takes Place in the Anime Universe

Detective Pikachu is out this weekend and has been getting rave reviews from the critics and fans so far. Since it’s a different kind of crossover film, fans have been wondering if it was set it our world, or an alternate one. The writers of the film, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, sat down with CB and let them know what to expect as far as the setting of the movie. When asked how the film fit in with the rests of the Pokemon universe, or if it did at all, Hernandez said:

“We definitely did do it that way as like, ‘This is like maybe connected to the rest of the Pokemon world.’ It's not like we're saying that this is an alternate universe where Pokemon and humans live side by side. This is just a different area in their known world where they decided to do things differently.”

He went on to say:

“We wanted to be clear that this is the same Universe as all the other Pokemon stuff, it's just a different side of it.”

That’s good news for the fans of the franchise and series. How do you hope the movie ties into its universe? Are you excited for Detective Pikachu? Let us know in the comments.
