Director Nia DaCosta Teases How the CAPTAIN MARVEL Sequel THE MARVELS Is a "Very Different Beast"
Nia DaCosta, writer and director of Little Woods and Candyman, is stepping up to direct her first MCU movie with the Captain Marvel sequel titled The Marvels. While we don’t know much about the plot for the film yet, we do know that we will see the return of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, as well as Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and newcomer Iman Vellani is joining the cast as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.
A lot has happened in the MCU since Captain Marvel, and Carol Danvers’ story has progressed in a big way since her origin was laid out. DaCosta has spoken out about the tone of the sequel, telling Variety:
I can say it’s a very different beast. But I am obsessed with how we all deal with our pain and trauma, and there’s some of that in the story.
It seems like so many of the MCU superheroes have trauma in their past. If not from their childhoods, at least from their careers and what they’ve been through and lost over the past several years. It will be interesting to see how these women’s pasts will dictate who they are now. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
The Marvels is currently expected to arrive in theaters on November 11th, 2022.
