Disney Stops Production on THE LITTLE MERMAID, HOME ALONE, NIGHTMARE ALLEY, THE LAST DUEL, and More Due to the Coronavirus

Disney isn’t taking any chances with the novel coronavirus pandemic. After shifting the release dates of many of their films and closing down their Disneyland and Disney World parks, they have now announced that they are halting several of their film productions.

Those productions include Those movie shoots include The Little Mermaid, Home Alone, The Last Duel, Nightmare Alley, and Peter Pan & Wendy, Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, and Shrunk.

They will only be shut down for “a short time” as they wait for the COVID-19 pandemic to start to slow down. The studio released the following statement:

“While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on our productions, after considering the current environment and the best interests of our cast and crew, we have made the decision to pause production on some of our live-action films for a short time. We will continue to assess the situation and restart as soon as feasible.”

Director Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid was set to start shooting in London next week. Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel has been shooting in Ireland since February. Scott will now head to the editing room to “assemble the one-hour-plus amount of the film he shot over 4 1/2 weeks.” Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley has been shooting in Toronto. Production on director Dan Mazer’s Home Alone is taking place in Canada. Then there’s Joe Johnston’s Shrunk, which is a sequel to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids films and David Lowery’s Peter Pan and Wendy, which were in pre-production and still in the casting process.

It’s pretty crazy to see how the entertainment industry has been affected by the coronavirus. There’s going to be a weird gap in movie releases coming up as a lot of these films release dates are pushed back and productions halted.
