Disney's Live-Action LADY AND THE TRAMP Film Finds a Director

I personally don’t care for Disney remaking all of their old animated movies. I find it lazy and I haven’t enjoyed any of them as much as I enjoy their original versions. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s that I’m an adult and these are clearly being made for my kids. These remakes are clearly working for Disney though as they keep doing them. In fact, one of the first films to be made for their own streaming service is the live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp.

We recently found out that the film will be helmed by Charlie Bean. Bean has worked for a while in the animation world and has directed The Lego Ninjago Movie and written for Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack. While I’m not ecstatic about this film, his credits do make me think this is going to be pretty good. I’m sure they’ll change parts of the film to freshen it up a bit, but I’m sure we can still expect it to tell a similar tale to the 1955 animated feature that:

“[F]ollows a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady’s household, threaten to keep them apart.”

Now that we know who will direct the film, who would you like to see star in the film? Disney’s streaming service is set to launch in 2019 and I’m sure this film will be released shortly after. In addition to Bean, Andrew Bujalski has penned the new script and Brigham Taylor is producing the project.
