DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 is a Lot of Fun For Fans of Story and Building

I have never played a Dragon Quest game before Dragon Quest Builders 2. I am new to the franchise, but the idea of being able to build things like in Minecraft, but also to have a story involved with characters that look like their from Dragon Ball got me intrigued. This review is for the version of DQB2 for the Nintendo Switch, so there may be some differences depending on platform.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations for the game. I thought I would start playing and quickly find that either the building or the story would end up suffering in service of the other. I am happy to report that hours into the game, I’m still loving it. The story is not the deepest I’ve seen, but it’s still intriguing. The building aspect is as open as you’d like with new options opening up as you continue playing.

I also greatly enjoy the character designs from Akira Toriyama that greatly resemble the characters from Dragon Ball. My big complaint with the characters is that you can’t change anything about them other than the color of the hair and the color of the skin.

As for general problems I’ve had with the game, the biggest complaint for me has been the initial load time of the game. When you go to open the game, it takes a solid minute or two to load the menu. However, once you get to the menu, everything loads pretty quick and doesn’t hinder the experience.

This game has been more than I expected and I am absolutely loving it. If you’re wanting a game with a deep story or if you want to be able to build everything from the get go, you’ll want to try something else. However, if you want a little bit of both, I can’t think of a more perfect game.
