Dwayne Johnson Says the Cast of BLACK ADAM "Represents the World"

Black Adam is finally coming our way after over a decade of planning. Dwayne Johnson, who is serving as star and executive producer on the film, has been excited to bring this movie to the big screen for some time, and he has said many times that the “hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change,” in reference to the film. The movie is in the same universe as Shazam!, which is arguably one of the very best DC films out there, so it has a great foundation.

One other aspect that the people involved are proud of is the diversity represented in the film. In a recent press conference reported by /Film, Dwayne Johnson and Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia explained that while pulling this cast together, diversity was always a key element for the movie that they hoped would "represent the world." Garcia said:

"The cast reflects the world, right? I think that's what we were most proud about — we were able to assemble phenomenal actors that all came in and won the roles, and knocked us off our seats, but they also represent the world. I think when people look at this, we want to be able to inspire people and let everyone see someone who represents themselves in there. And I think we were able to put together a team of killer actors that knock it out of the park and embody those heroes, and also embody the world."

Johnson added:

"This is who we are and this is who we represent. And this is our kind of movie, and 'Black Adam' represents the world, the world of color, the world of acceptance, the world of embracing, and also the world having a real metal and a core of what you believe in... we have a lot of color on this movie. Black people, Brown people, white people, a few green people..."

Johnson is joined in the cast by Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man), who plays Hawkman in the film; Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I Love Before, Charlie's Angels) as Atom Smasher; Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone; and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate, as well as Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, The L Word), Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), who have been cast in unspecified roles.

Black Adam is set to hit theaters on October 21st, 2022.
