First Plot Details Revealed For Sony Pictures' MORBIUS THE LIVING VAMPIRE
It was already reported that Sony Pictures was developing a Morbius The Living Vampire film, which is a project that I’m completely stoked about! I love this character, and thanks to That Hashtag Show, we now have some rumored plot details to share with you along with info on the kind of actor that they are looking to cast in the lead role.
The script is being written by Lost in Space scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, and it turns out that Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray was offered the opportunity to direct the film, but ended up turning it down.
We don’t know who else the studio is looking at to direct the film, but they are looking to cast a male of an unspecified race between the ages of 30 - 37 to play Morbius. A brief plot summary for the movie has also been revealed, which you can read below:
"Horror action story of a scientist who, in trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transformed himself into a living vampire who, though disgusted by his own bloodlust, chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life."
Fans should like the sound of that because that longline sounds pretty on par with the comic book. I would love for this to be a hardcore vampire horror film. But seeing what they are doing with Venom, it makes me think that won’t be the case. Also, I still think it's weird that they are building this whole Spider-Verse without Spider-Man. Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing how they handle the character.
Morbius was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #101, which is also the first issue not written by Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.
The movie will be a part of a separate Spider-Verse that Sony Pictures is building.
