Great Trailer For Netflix Limited Series APPLE CIDER VINEGAR "A True-ish Story Based On a Lie" Starring Kaitlyn Dever
Netflix has released a trailer for their upcoming limited series Apple Cider Vinegar, a wild true story that follows the life of Australian convicted scammer and pseudoscience advocate Belle Gibson, who, as a health influencer, convinced her followers that she beat cancer with her healthy diet.
The official logline reads, “Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way.
“All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.” Netflix bills Apple Cider Vinegar as a “true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down.”
In the trailer, Belle (Kaitlyn Dever) seeks out to meet Milla Blake (Alycia Debnam-Carey), a popular blogger who actually has cancer, though they soon become rivals.
Milla’s friend Chanelle (Aisha Dee) tells Milla that Belle “just wants me to help her out a bit, professsionally.” Milla responds, “Of course she does. She’s competitive with me.”
Belle is seen going through hospital imaging machines and developing a larger and larger following on Instagram. Later, on a phone call, Milla tells someone, “I want to destroy her.”
The rest of the cast includes Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Ashley Zukerman, Mark Coles Smith, Susie Porter, Matt Nable, Phoenix Raei, Chai Hansen, Rick Davies, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Catherine McClements and Essie Davis.
Based on the book The Woman Who Fooled the World by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano, Apple Cider Vinegar was created by Samantha Strauss, who wrote the series alongside Anya Beyersdorf and Angela Betzien.
This looks like such an interesting story. I don’t even remember it happening in real time, but maybe it wasn’t covered here as much as Australia.
Either that, or my kids were all very small and I wasn’t tracking the news very well at that point. Either way, I’m excited to dive into it all now.
Check out the trailer below, and watch Apple Cider Vinegar when it drops on Netflix on February 6th.
