Guillermo del Toro "Would Have Killed to Adapt" Stephen King's PET SEMATARY
Stephen King’s horror novel Pet Semetary has been adapted twice so far as feature films. The original film was great and it scared the living shit out of me when I was a kid. The remake was a decent adaptation, but it could’ve been better. I’d gladly trade the most recent adaptation in for one directed by Guillermo del Toro and he would love the opportunity to do it!
Now, Del Toro is a crazy busy guy and has multiple projects in various stages of development. His most recent film is the upcoming movie Nightmare Alley. Regardless of how busy the filmmaker is, he’s holding out for hope that one day he will get to helm his own adaptation of the novel. While a guest on the Kingcast podcast, Del Toro said:
“You know the novel that I would have killed to adapt, and I know there's two versions of it, and I still think maybe in a deranged universe I get to do it again one day is Pet Sematary. Because it not only has the very best final couple of lines, but it scared me when I was a young man. As a father, I now understand it better than I ever would have, and it scares me. A hundred times more.”
This obviously won’t happen anytime soon as there’s a prequel film currently in development for Paramount+. But who knows, maybe one day Guillermo del Toro will get his shot.
Would you like to see del Toro take on King’s Pet Semetary one day?
