It Looks Like Marvel's THUNDERBOLTS* Might Set the Stage For AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

It looks like Marvel’s Thunderbolts* will be a direct pipeline to setting up Avegners: Doomsday. Marvel kicked off a livestream today announcing the full cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and the lineup brought with it a wave of clarity.

Among the expected returns and surprises, it was the confirmed presence of Thunderbolts* characters that caught the attention of fans.

David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova,  Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, Lewis Pullman’s Sentry, and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes are all confirmed to appear in Doomsday.

It seems to me thatThunderbolts* will feed directly into Doomsday. For fans who’ve been wondering if Marvel’s storytelling was starting to lose its connective tissue, this should be a relief.

As Marvel shifts gears into its next big saga, these recent confirmations show the studio hasn’t lost the thread. The Thunderbolts aren’t just a one-and-done, they’re being woven into the wider multiverse chaos that’s coming, and Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., is at the center of it.

We’ll just have to wait and see how these character fit into the story. We’ll get a better idea of that soon when Thunderbolts* is released in theaters. I’m also curious how they will stand up against Doom.

Most of them are still viewed as villains or, at best, government-controlled wild cards, and none of them have the kind of power that could be used against Doctor Doom. Sentry has the best chance in a fight.

I’m actually even more excited to see Thunderbolts* now to see how the story will play out and how it might connect to Doomsday.

According to the official synopsis: “In Thunderbolts, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker.

“After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”

Thunderbolts* will be released in United States theaters on May 2, 2025. Doomsday is currently slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027.
