IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Episode 7 Preview Hints at the Terrifying Truth Behind the Real Pennywise
HBO has released a sneak peek at Episode 7 of It: Welcome to Derry, and things are about to get seriously unsettling. As the series moves into its penultimate chapter, the show is finally ready to reveal the true Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Fans have been waiting all season for this moment, and based on what we’ve seen, Episode 7 is gearing up to deliver something wild.
Episode 6 dropped a massive reveal when it confirmed that Ingrid Kersh, Lilly’s mysterious friend from Juniper Hill, is the daughter of the man who inspired It to take the form of Pennywise.
She fully believes the entity tormenting Derry is her father, and now that she’s wearing the clown suit herself, it feels like the show is steering toward a horrifying collision between past and present.
The preview for Episode 7, titled “The Black Spot,” amps up that energy by showing the real Pennywise the Dancing Clown performing on stage. Later, he appears to mentor a young clown.
The big theory floating around is that this young performer could be the entity known as “It” in the early stages of learning how to weaponize the clown persona to prey on Derry’s children.
Fans of It: Chapter Two will remember Mrs. Kersh, though that version was the creature wearing her skin. The series is clearly weaving a deeper connection between Pennywise and the Kersh bloodline, and it looks like the finale is going to bring those threads together in some chilling ways.
During an interview with Collider, cast members Clara Stack, Amanda Christine, and Matilda Lawler teased where the story is heading as the final episodes approach.
Stack offered a hint at the chaos still to come, saying, "Honestly, reading the scripts, it was just shock after shock after shock. There are so many plot twists within this series that I think are really going to shock the audience.
“They’re really relevant to the plot and really surprising. And there are so many incredible, horrific and tense sequences throughout this series. I think people watching are just going to be really terrified and really shocked."
Lawler followed that up by confirming the show digs even deeper into the mythology. "I’m excited for people to see the ways that the last few episodes of the series go further into the origins of the entity and connect to both the movies more deeply."
Christine added, "The last episodes dive into the origin story, and they get into the books and the movies. So, just stay tuned for everything to come."
If you're a fan of Stephen King lore, that sounds extremely promising. It: Welcome to Derry builds on the world first realized in King’s novel and the modern films directed by Andy Muschietti.
Developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, the nine episode season brings the terror of Derry to HBO with Muschietti directing four episodes.
Six episodes are currently available to stream on HBO Max, with new episodes arriving weekly and the finale scheduled for December 14. I can’t wait!
