James Gunn Explains That GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is About Adults Abused as Kids Starting to Heal

For any of you who are looking to dive deeper into the Guardians of the Galaxy films and find some underlying meaning to what director James Gunn was trying to say about his characters, he offered some heartfelt insight on it recently.

Gunn has talked about the importance of family in these Guardians of the Galaxy films in the past, saying:

"The first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family. And what's harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it's being a family. That's where you really haven't to deal with each other. And that's what this movie is about. And their sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister."

Gunn recently shared some additional insight on the characters and reveals what Guardians of the Galaxy is to him more than anything else. After a fan linked Gunn to a piece about the thematic cycles of abuse in his films, Gunn replied:

I know that it's been there in front of us the whole time, but having it pointed out to us in this way really drives the point home. For some fans, this insight might even make you see these films and characters in a completely different light as we rewatch the first two films and watch them continue their journey in the future films.

The next time we'll see the Guardians in action is in Avengers: Infinity War and it's going to be interesting to see what the outcome of that will be for them.

Do you have any thoughts on what Gunn had to say here?
