James Gunn Offers Update on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 as He Prepares For Production
James Gunn has been incredibly busy lately. As you know, he’s been working on DC’s The Suicide Squad and has also been developing a spinoff series for John Cena’s character Peacemaker. Of course, as you know, before he made the jump to DC, Gunn was developing the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
I won’t rehash all the drama that led to Gunn being fired from Guardians Vol. 3 then rehired by Disney and Marvel, but when he is finished with Peacemaker, he will jump into production on the highly-anticipated Marvel movie. As of right now he is prepping for that production and he recently answered a bunch of fan questions on Twitter offering an update on film.
You can read through those Q&A updates below. In them, he says that most of the production heads have been hired for the film. He explains that the script he initially wrote before he was fired has changed very little, as well as a few other things. Check that out below.
There’s still so much that we don’t know about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but Gunn did previously reveal that Rocket Raccoon plays a big role in what’s going to happen in the story. In fact, it will lead to what Gunn has been planning for the character from the very beginning.
“I’ll just say Rocket is a big part of what’s happening in the future - and a lot of this stuff (like the scars we’re about to see on his back) sets up what I’ve been planning for Rocket all along.”
The filmmaker added:
“Part of the cybernetics apparently painfully placed in his body. One of my favorite moments in the movie. Rocket’s loneliness and disaffection is at the center of the franchise for me.”
I love Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films and I couldn’t be more excited to see how this third film in the franchise plays out and brings the story of these characters to an end in his trilogy.
