Jason Statham Returning for THE BEEKEEPER 2 with Director Timo Tjahjanto

Jason Statham is gearing up for another round of brutal justice as Miramax officially moves forward with The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to its 2024 sleeper hit.

This time, Timo Tjahjanto, the action-horror filmmaker behind The Night Comes for Us and the upcoming Nobody 2, will step into the director’s chair, working from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer. He will jump into production this fall.

The first Beekeepermovie was directed by David Ayer, and the story followed a retired clandestine operative who went on a rampage after a phishing scam left his kind-hearted landlady bankrupt.

The film leaned into the audiences' love for Statham’s no-nonsense action persona, and it pulled in $152.7 million at the global box office. While Ayer is currently tied up directing The Heart of the Beast with Brad Pitt, the studio hopes to bring him back as a producer.

Bringing Tjahjanto on board to direct signals an intent to amp up the action. The Indonesian filmmaker has built a reputation for bone-crunching, hyper-violent set pieces, with Netflix hits like The Big Four and The Shadow Strays. He’s currently wrapping Nobody 2, with Bob Odenkirk.

With Statham back in action and Tjahjanto steering the ship, The Beekeeper 2 is sure to deliver more mayhem, more honey-soaked vengeance.

Amazon MGM Studios is expected to handle domestic release duties once again.
