Jeffrey Dean Morgan Weighs in on How Much More Story He Believes Is Left for THE WALKING DEAD
This week, the cast and crew of The Walking Dead assembled for the premiere of the tenth season of the hit AMC series. The show has had a solid run thus far, and isn’t showing signs of slowing down with one spin-off solidly off the ground, another in the works, and movie spin-offs in the not too distant future. As for what the stars of the series think, Variety was able to catch up with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays the charming and charismatic villain in reform, Negan, and here’s what he had to say about the run of the series:
“You don’t want to run it into the ground. Me personally, I’d say let’s go out on top. Let’s go out still being the number one show in the world. Whether or not that happens, I don’t know. I think if we just stuck with the comic book, we’ve still got another three years. We do deviate a lot, but I think there’s probably a good three years of material there.”
While the comic book ended this summer, the series has always used its story as its framework, but has gone off on its own to keep the fans surprised and invested. Showrunner Angela Kang reinforced that exact idea, by saying:
“Depending at the pace we go, it could be very fast at the end or it could be very slow. We always fill in with original material. Robert said to me and Scott Gimple, look at all these threads that I set up for you, so the story could go a million different ways.”
I love these characters so much and think it’s crazy to look back and see how much story we’ve already covered. I can’t wait to see what happens in the seasons yet to come, and I have hope that after all their hardships, the characters we know and love will be able to settle down one day for good and get a new normal that does them justice. But for now, I’m ready for them to fight.
Watch The Walking Dead Season 10 on AMC on Sunday, October 6th.
