John Lithgow Talks About Returning to the Role of the Trinity Killer in DEXTER: RESURRECTION

John Lithgow is known for playing an array of characters, from comedic to dramatic, and historic to serial killer, he’s done it all. His murderous arc took place back in 2009 in the series Dexter, where for one season he played Arthur Mitchell- family man by day, and psycho killer by night.

Mitchell ultimately met his end at the hands of Dexter in Season 4. So Lithgow rightly believed he was done with the character, but it turns out Arthur Mitchell has a reason to return.

In a recent interview with Variety, Lithgow talked about his upcoming roles in the HBO Harry Potter series, in which he will play Dumbledore; and Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection.

Lithgow revealed details about his unexpected return to Dexter, despite his character meeting his end in Season 4.

“I just went back to do a day,” Lithgow disclosed. “They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of Dexter. And it turns out he didn’t die after all. I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed.”

This makes sense. Dexter himself seems to be able to resurrect from multiple near-death experiences, but the Trinity Killer was taken out by a hammer, and a Dexter-style disposal, and there’s just no coming back from that. So a near-death apparition makes perfect sense.

Dexter: Resurrection is set to debut on Showtime this June.
