Josh Gad's Disney+ MUPPETS Series Has Been Scrapped

Disney has been developing a new scripted Muppets series with Josh Gad for the Disney+ steaming service for months, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Disney has scrapped the series, and it’s no longer happening.

Gad was developing the series with Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. According to Variety, the three talents ended up walking away from the project “after new leadership at Muppets Studios opted to take the series in a different direction.”

If you’re a fan of The Muppets, though, Disney did announce another project at D23 called Muppets Now that they were moving forward with. This is a different project, and it’s said to be a short-form unscripted series. This one will be the first series featuring the characters since ABC’s failed attempt to launch the scripted mockumentary series The Muppets back in 2016.

I used to love the Muppets when I was growing up. The property is filled with classic characters that a lot of people loved and enjoyed. I haven’t been impressed with anything that has been done with the characters in recent years, though. Disney needs to find the right project for them to get people to watch. I was hoping that Gad and his team would pull it off, but I guess that’s not gonna happen.
