Joss Whedon's JUSTICE LEAGUE Reshoots Are Confirmed To Give The Film a Lighter Tone

It was such a huge surprise to learn that Zack Snyder would be stepping away as the director for Justice League and that he would be replaced by Joss Whedon. The film has since been going through extensive reshoots. At first, fans thought that the reshoots would just be little pick up shots here and there, but it's a lot more than that.

Whedon was working on helping rework certain aspects of the film before Snyder left and like many of us suspected, a lot of the reshoots being done are to give the film a lighter tone. This was confirmed by actor Joe Morton, who plays Cyborg's dad Dr. Silas Stone in the film.

During an interview with IGN, Morton said that one of the characters that went through this tone adjustments was Cyborg. He said:

"Well, the stuff that I had to do were just really small little bits and pieces, nothing necessarily having to do with tone. I know that with Ray, the young man who plays [Cyborg], there were some adjustments that they made in terms of the tone of that character.”

Cyborg does kind of have a dark origin as  Dr. Stone uses alien technology to create a body to save his son, who was tragically injured in an accident that resulted in the loss of much of his body. Justice League will be the first time we really get to know the character in the DCEU and whatever tone they give him will follow him throughout the course of the future films.

Morton goes on to admit that the goal of the reshoots overall are to light the tone of the whole film saying:

"I think what I heard was that there was a need from the studio to lighten up the film in a way, that the film felt too dark. I don't know what that meant in terms of how it actually got translated in terms of the reshoots but that's what I heard. That's what I thought some of the reshoots were about," Morton said.

Even with the lighter tone, I'm sure that film will still retain Zack Snyder's signature style. But, we'll just have to wait and see what Whedon's influence on the film really is when it's released in theaters.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes -- Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash -- it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League opens on November 17.
