Judy Blume's Quintessential Coming-of-Age Novel ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET Is Coming to the Big Screen

If you are a woman who grew up between the 1970’s and present day, there’s a good chance you read the book Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by the acclaimed author Judy Blume. Now the book is headed to the big screen via Lionsgate with Kelly Fremon Craig (The Edge of Seventeen) writing the adaptation, as well as directing. Blume is on board to produce.

Variety reports that “several key senior executives passionately pitched the project to Blume, Fremon Craig and Brooks by transforming their conference room into an 11-year-old girl’s bedroom.” Lionsgate president Erin Westerman said of the project, “This title was an anthem when we first read it as teens, and it remains timeless and relevant because nothing has captured the coming-of-age experience with the same authenticity, truth and respect. For that reason, Judy Blume is a beacon for women and girls.”

No kidding. When GeekTyrant editor Mily and I heard this movie was being made, we reminisced fondly of the Judy Blume books that shaped us and taught us as kids, recalling that so much of our pubescent and sex education came from this magnificent author. I will definitely be happy to see this movie and share the coming-of-age story with my own daughter.

Did you read Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret when you were a kid?
