KRAVEN THE HUNTER Director Hopes to Adapt KRAVEN'S LAST HUNT Next and There's a Wild New Promo Spot

Kraven The Hunter director J.C. Chandor is hoping that the movie ends up being a success at the box office and with fans and critics because he would love to return to make a sequel, and he already knows what story he wants to tell.

In an interview with Collider, Chandor shared that his plan was always to continue the story by adapting the classic 1987 comic book storyline Kraven’s Last Hunt, which features the final battle between Kraven and Spider-Man.

The filmmaker said: "As crazy as it seemed, and there were a lot of challenges, there was the opportunity to structure it as a classic origin story, but not a hero’s story, or a classic superhero story.

“It’s essentially this building of a villain. The final piece in that, for Aaron and for me, was in Kraven’s Last Hunt, which, if this thing works and is a success, that’s where we’d have this story end. It’s obviously very tragic and sad.

“The journey getting there is a wild crazy ride with a lot of fun, but the character we’re trying to create is one who could realistically, if this film is a success, end with Last Hunt. That, as a storyteller, can sit right on the shelves with the rest of my movies."

Telling that story without Spider-Man, though, seems pointless. And even if the director can use Spider-Man, a story like Kraven’s Last Hunt needs a big build up!

Franchise star Aaron Taylor-Johnson also suggested that Kraven might wind up a full-on villain by the end of the movie during a recent interview, and he promises that it won’t disappoint.

He said: "I mean, it's very much the question to everyone else really, right? Because I think what we've done, what we've set up in this story is a really rich character that definitely has the legs to go on and do more damage.

I think he should go toe-to-toe with some superheroes that we know. One of my favorite stories is Kraven's Last Hunt. It was one of the source materials I used to go back from. He's got some dark demons there and we are basically showing the birth of that and how he becomes a villain that we then come to know.

“So really come see this movie, man. Come see this movie. I promise you it won't disappoint. It's got all the beats that you want and more. I think it could be an audience’s sort of villain favorite, definitely go toe-to-toe with some other people down the line, man."

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel's most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.

The movie also stars Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as an unknown villain, Levi Miller, and Catch-22 star Christopher Abbott as the main villain, The Foreigner.

Kraven the Hunter movie in theaters nationwide on December 13th, 2024. I’ve also included a new promo spot that you can watch below!
