Letitia Wright Discusses the Process She Went Through to Grieve in BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

Black Panther was one of the great Marvel movies that introduced fans to a new superhero, a new story, and a new world. The technologically advanced civilization of Wakanda opened up fans to some awesome new possibilities and an impressive ensemble that fans were excited to see in further stories. They returned for the fight against Thanos in the Infinity War and Endgame, but unfortunately, our Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman passed away a couple of years ago before he could return to reprise his role in another feature film.

The rest of the cast was devastated, of course, as were the fans, but one star of the franchise, Letitia Wright, who plays Black Panther’s younger sister Shuri, is opening up about how making the upcoming Black Panther sequel served as a cathartic experience for both her and her character.

In a recent interview with Empire Online, Wright explained:

“Shuri’s journey has allowed me to grieve, to cry, to laugh, and to gain strength that I never thought I could ever have. Trials and tribulations make you who you are. You either fold or you get up and go again. I feel like Shuri kept looking at me every day, asking me if I was gonna fold or go again. And I just kept going until healing started to happen for me.”

When asked if Shuri could be the one to take over the Black Panther name and throne, Wright said:

“That’s a tricky question to answer. I had a chat about it with Ryan and Chad when we were making Black Panther, and we touched on it briefly. When I realised I was playing Shuri, it was something that I really looked forward to.”

That’s a nice little sidestep there, seeing as how she obviously can’t spoil what happens in the movie! But we don’t have long to wait at this point. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to hit theaters on November 11th.
