Let's Talk About POWER RANGERS #7

BOOM! Studios released Power Rangers #7 today, and it’s just so good. Ryan Parrott and Francesco Mortarino continue to tell amazing stories. BOOM! Was kind enough to provide me with a copy of the comic to read, but you can grab a copy from your local comic shop, comiXology (affiliate link), Google Play, iBooks, or Madefire.

The New Power Rangers and Drakkon are on the run in space, but they must find new allies if they want to defeat the Empyreals. But that means trusting someone they're not sure is friend or foe if they are to save the universe. And then...there's Drakkon.

Picking up after the preview, Jason and Trini continue to talk. Their situation is getting desperate and feeling hopeless, and it’s raising a lot of concerns from everyone. Jason is worried about saving the universe, Trini’s worried about losing their morality, and Drakkon’s worried about staying alive. They then go and meet with Xi, who has found the Empyreals have recently destroyed some planets, one of which had 2.3 billion lives on it that are now gone. Using some technology, he’s then able to predict that their next target will be Hartunia.

While this normally wouldn’t really matter, some questions do get raised since Hartunians are known to be oppressors and tyrants who conquer several worlds and exploit them for riches and slaves. Xi points out (and Drakkon agrees) that the universe would probably be safer if they were destroyed. However, the Rangers decide that it doesn’t matter and they’re still going to try to save these people. In the talks, Trini also shares a plan that she thinks could help in the fight against the Empyreals. Zack also mentions wanting a new Blue Ranger. Jason agrees, but they don’t have a candidate. Drakkon is currently the only option, and they’re not doing that.

The Rangers go down to Hartunia and everything’s going alright until someone tries selling some aliens that can talk to Zack. He loses it and a brawl starts. They morph and are eventually taken to the Emperor. The Rangers say their peace and hope to work with the Hartunians, but he doesn’t listen. He’s convinced that he was destined to come out on top because of some scripture his people have. His wife talks about the Rangers being untrustworthy and they should be fed to an Ortivox, whatever that is. The emperor dismisses her, then shows the Rangers his army that will supposedly help save his people, and then orders that the Rangers be taken to the Ortivox. During the transport, the guards are killed by other guards who take the Rangers to the empress who apparently wants their help. Color me a little confused, but I guess we’ll get the story next time.

I don’t know how much longer the Rangers are going to be able to last at this rate. This is a lot of stress and there are freaking planet destroyers threatening the universe. Maybe they can get a beach day soon? Maybe watch a parody play of themselves? Just spitballing.
