LOKI Season 2 Producer Explains What's Going on with Sylvie Working at McDoland's
As you know, Marvel Studios and McDonald’s have partnered up for Loki Season 2, and it was recently revealed that the Loki variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) is working at the fast food chain. We saw a bit of footage of that, but we don’t really know what the deal is with that. But according to producer Kevin Wright, this is actually a significant part of the show’s narrative.
During an interview with Fast Company, the producer explained that bringing McDonald’s into the storyline provides a unique perspective on Sylvie, who is a character that’s been driven by anger and revenge. Now, with working at McD’s, the character will just be enjoying the little and ordinary things in life. Wright said:
“This character had been on a decades-long, maybe centuries-long revenge mission, and the classic trope of those stories is that it’s all-consuming, and she’s not thinking about what comes next. Now she has this moment of opportunity, where is she going to go? When we stayed in the view of the character, this woman who went on the run as a child, had been running through time, a fugitive of time, living in apocalypses, never being able to relax or slow down, the novelty of walking into a 1980s McDonald’s looked appealing.”
Wright went on to say that they were looking to tell a profound story that would establish the character’s desire for some regular happiness. He added:
“I was worried that McDonald’s would think we wanted to do something ironic or make fun of them. But we were selling an earnest story, a love letter to nostalgia through a character’s eyes who will see all of the novelty and joy of it.”
In Season 2, the God of Mischief finds himself with a little problem of “time slipping.” The trailer also features Ke Huy Quan as an archivist whom they go to for help. Owen Wilson returns as Mobius, and he will continue to help Loki as they try to figure out watch is going o,n and this leads them to Jonathan Majors as the Kang variant Victor Timely.
The cast also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, and Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, who we see a variant of in the trailer.
The series was directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani. The head writer of the show is Eric Martin and it’s produced by Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin R. Wright, Hiddleston, Benson, Moorhead, Martin, and Michael Waldron.
Marvel Studios’ Loki Season 2 begins streaming on October 6, exclusively on Disney+.
