LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS VOLUME 2 Tried to Bring Arnold Schwarzenegger Back as Conan

A lot of fans seem to be enjoying Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots Volume 2, but it could have been a hell of a lot better had they been able to include one thing that they were trying to do.

Series creator Tim Miller planned for one of the shorts in the series to revolve around Conan the Barbarian, with Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his iconic role! Miller and Schwarzenegger actually discussed a Conan animated short that would have included all of the crazy violence and action that we loved about the original movies.

In a recent live Reddit event, Miller said, "It would have been a Conan short. I did want to do a Conan short, but we couldn't get permission. It would have been based on Red Nails. It involved Valeria, the pirate queen... a lost city, it was fucked up. There were dinosaurs in it, too. We just couldn't get permission."

Now that’s the kind of shit I want to see! Screw a short film, this needs to be a feature-length animated movie! It sucks that the creative team couldn’t get the permission. That’s a shame. I guess the people who have the rights to the Conan property don’t want to see cool shit.

If you’re not familiar with Red Nails, it is the last of the stories featuring Conan that was written by Robert E. Howard. It's set in the “pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan encountering a lost city in which the degenerate inhabitants are proactively resigned to their own destruction. Due to its dark themes of decay and death, the story is considered a classic of Conan lore while also cited by Howard scholars as one of his best tales.”
