Lucasfilm's ILMxLab Is Developing a VR Experience Set in the World of STAR WARS: GALAXY'S EDGE
As Disney prepares to open up their theme parks and lure Star Wars fans back to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment studio ILMxLab has announced that they are developing a new virtual-reality experience that extends the storylines encompassing the epic Star Wars attraction!
The VR experience will is titled Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge, and it’s being made in collaboration with Oculus Studios.
The VR experience will feature both iconic and new characters from the Star Wars universe, and according to ILMxLab, “Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge will include multiple styles of gameplay and various difficulty settings, designed to appeal to both casual fans and hardcore Star Wars buffs.”
The story for the experience is set on the planet of Batuu, and the story takes place in the time between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Batuu is set on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Scott Trowbridge, Walt Disney Imagineering creative executive explained that guests “can immerse themselves in these stories both inside and outside our parks.”
Vicki Dobbs Beck, ILMxLab executive-in-charge, added that the VR adventure “not only speaks to the promise of connected and complementary experiences by extending the lore around Black Spire Outpost, it represents another meaningful step in ILMxLAB’s quest to transition from storytelling – one-way communication – to storyliving, where you’re inside a world making consequential choices that drive your experience forward.”
This could actually be a lot of fun! It’s pretty cool that Lucasfilm is creating an experience for Star Wars fans that expands on Galaxy’s Edge. I’ve only been to the Star Wars theme park attraction once and it was a pretty amazing experience! So, yeah, I’m excited about this!
Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge is slated to be released later in 2020.
