Mae Whitman Set to Star in Hulu Musical Series UP HERE
Actress Mae Whitman (Parenthood, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Good Girls) has signed on to star in the musical series Up Here at Hulu. The musical romantic comedy series was created by Tick, Tick… Boom! and Dear Evan Hansen writer Steven Levenson, and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show). Thomas Kail (Hamilton) is directing the series, with music from the Frozen and WandaVision songwriting duo, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The show was collaboratively written by Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez, and Lopez.
“Up Here is set in New York City in the waning days of 1999. It follows the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, Lindsay and Miguel, as they fall in love and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears, and fantasies that lives inside their heads.
“Whitman stars as Lindsay, who has spent her entire life desperately trying to live up to the good girl persona the world seems to expect of her. But she is sick and tired of being nice, and she is about to leave her small life in small town Vermont behind to move to New York City to find out who she really is, and what she really wants.”
Production on the show, which has an eight-episode straight-to-series order, is set to begin this summer in New York. I am a fan of Whitman, as well as the people creating this series, so I look forward to seeing what they create.
