MUNCHKIN: QUACKED QUEST is a Fun Party Dungeon Crawler
Asmodee Digital was kind enough to gift me a copy of Munchkin: Quacked Quest for Nintendo Switch and it’s been fun to play around in. If you enjoy the kind of wackiness inherent in the game of Munchkin, dungeon crawl games like Diablo, and party games like Mario Party, this may just be the perfect game for you.
I’ve played a handful of games, and there are two main complaints that I have. First, it gets annoying when you play against AI and they can leave the edges of your screen but none of the human players can. That feels like an unfair advantage for them. It’s not a big deal, but it is annoying. Second, I wish that when the random settings for each game are revealed that it would explain what they mean. As it stands, you have to go and talk to the front desk to see what all the different possible cards are and then remember that when the cards flip over. I wish that there was a brief sentence for each card when they’re revealed.
On to the meh of the game. Playing by yourself is boring and lackluster. This is designed to be a party game and therefore the single-player experience is lacking. Of course, you can always hop online to play that way and get more enjoyment out of it. With that being said, the more friends you have over to play, the more fun Quacked Quest is.
So, what’s good about this game? Well, if you have at least three friends who can come over, you’re in for a night of laughs. Heck, even just one friend takes the enjoyment of the game up a few notches. The controls are simple, the art is exactly what you’d expect and it all fits into that little world of Munchkin. Plus, it only retails for $25, so it’s pretty cheap. It knows what it is and doesn’t try to be more.
You can purchase Munchkin: Quacked Quest now on Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam), and PS4.
