Netflix's THE CROWN Gets a Surprise Sixth and Final Season

Netflix originally announced that The Crown would end after its fifth season. Well it looks like plans have changed as the streaming service has announced that the series will now get a sixth season and this will be the real final season. This will extend the story into the early 2000s.

Creator Peter Morgan also shared the following statement:

“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons.

“To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

The Crown Season 4 wrapped production in March and is expected to launch later this year, featuring Olivia Colman’s final time playing Queen Elizabeth II. The character will be played by Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) in Season 5 and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) recently signed on to play Princess Margaret.

The Crown has been a wonderful series to watch and it’s good to learn that we will be getting one more season out of it!
