New Details Revealed Regarding The Changes to Chucky in The CHILD'S PLAY Remake
A couple of months ago it was announced that MGM was going to reboot the classic horror franchise Child's Play. This movie is completely separate from the upcoming TV series that is being developed by creator Don Mancini, who will not be involved with the film reboot.
When the project was first announced we learned that the film would be a "contemporary reboot involving a group of kids... and a technologically-advanced doll enters their world."
We now have some additional details on how the killer Chucky doll will be portrayed in the film and they are pretty much abandoning the whole voodoo possessed doll concept. According to CB, Chucky is "a defective 'Buddy doll' whose programming code was hacked so that he has no limitations to learning and also violence."
It was also revealed that one of the characters is a Chinese factory worker "who commits suicide shortly after re-programming a Buddy doll to have no limitations." I guess the big question is, what was his purpose and reason in reprogramming the doll to be a killer?
A lot of fans aren't happy about this remake happening in the first place and these rumored changes certainly aren't going to smooth things over. I imagine this is just going to create more controversy. At least we still have the Child's play series coming!
It does kind of suck, though, that the studio is moving forward with this remake while the original franchise with the original creator is still alive and well. It's not like they are resurrecting a dead franchise.
The new Child's Play reboot is set to begin filming in September and it's being developed by the producers of IT, David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith.
What are your thoughts on these changes being made to Chucky?
