New Details Surface For The Upcoming CHILD'S PLAY TV Series

While MGM is developing a reboot of Child’s Play, the co-creator of the franchise, Dan Mancini, is also developing a TV series that will connect to the original film franchise. We haven’t seen a lot of details on the series since it was announced. Mancini previously teased that it would be "darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy."

Now today we have some new details to share with you thanks to Mancini and producer David Kirschner. They explained to Bloody-Disgusting that the show aims to bring the franchise back to its roots:

“We deliberately ended Cult [of Chucky] with a bunch of cliffhangers to set up a TV series. Because there are so many different threads now, television could best accommodate that so that was done intentionally. At the same time, we have a whole new world, a bunch of new characters which we can say nothing about.”

For those of you who don’t know, Mancini has written every Child’s Play film and has directed the last three. This guy knows Chucky better than anyone and if anyone is going to continue the story, it’s him. This series is the project that true hardcore Child’s Play fans are really excited about. Not, that remake.

I think it’s cool that the last film was used to set up the Chucky series! Just in case you aren’t aware, Cult of Chucky introduced Chucky’s ability to possess multiple dolls simultaneously. Kirschner went on to say that the series will get back to the basics of the core concept of the franchise:

“The only thing I think we can say is from the original film that Don wrote, Child’s Play, we are playing with that concept again, the idea of child’s play. I’ll let you guys fill in the pieces of that.”

Mancini then went on to add that, “It involves children.” Bringing kids back into the mix of the horror of Chucky should be fun. Mancini has enjoyed reinventing the franchise over the past seven films, and this series is going to be a very different medium for him and his creative team to play with. When talking about that he says:

“We saw that after seven movies, how can we flip again? So this time not by merely changing genre but by changing medium. This will give us a different kind of canvas, a much bigger canvas to explore characters and relationships.”
