New Photo and Details Revealed for Marvel's SPIDER-MAN: MILES MORALES Game

As you know, we’ve got a new Spider-Man game coming from Marvel and Insomniac. It’s titled Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and we’ve got a new screenshot to share with you today along with some new details thanks to EW.

The story for the game is set in the winter about a year after the events of the first Spider-Man game. Brian Horton, the game’s creative director, wrote in a blog post, “Marvel’s New York is covered in snow, and just before Christmas break, a war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army has broken out. Miles’s new home in Harlem is at the heart of the battle.”

Miles will have his own abilities that he can hone throughout the game, which include bioshock and invisibility, which will make him feel different from Peter Parker. When talking about setting up with the new game, Bryan Intihar, Insomniac’s creative director said:

“We knew really early that [Spider-Man] was going to end with him getting the spider bite. We would tease it during development. I think everybody was focused on, 'Can you make the first one really good and we'll worry about the other stuff later?' But we wanted to have that set up so if it became a reality [to do another game] we could pull it off."

At one point during the development of the first Spider-man game, Miles was only going to be shown in a post-credits scene, but Intihar says the team determined it was important to "see the roots of him being a hero before he even had spider powers." When talking about the final end-credits tag, Intihar said, "One of the reasons we put that out was to hopefully convince people that ‘He’s a Spider-Man now. Can we have a game with him?‘”

After that, Intihar says that "they were fully on board with the idea" of a sequel and even though it will have a smaller narrative, it features a full story arc for Miles Morales. It’s explained that they are “completing this hero's coming of age in our game,” and it “has a lot of heart.”

Horton explained:

"When we started crafting it, we realized that, with a little bit more of a compact storytelling style, we could tell a very emotionally impactful story that would fit really well as an experience that would take Spider-Man 1 and [Miles Morales] and do justice to this character."

In regards to the animation, the movements, the mechanics, and even his powers, it’s explained that they “aren't just unique tricks for this character, they are metaphors for that hero's journey the pair keep mentioning.” While Peter's origin "was born out of tragedy," Horton says Miles "is more so born out of family. What I think is really compelling about Miles as a character is he has friends that he could actually let into his world — his human world and his Spider world. He's a little different in the way he approaches it."

I was sold on the game the moment I heard it was coming to PS5! I love everything that I’ve seen and heard about it so far, and I’m excited to play it when it’s released.
