New Photos From STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW and Details on the "Childhood Adventure"
Several new photos have been shared for Lucasfilm’s upcoming series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which comes from Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts.
The series has been described as ”a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.” The story will follow four young kids from a tiny little planet, and they end up getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy and embark on a journey to find their way back home.
The film was pitched to Lucasfilm as “Goonies in Star Wars," and it’s been explained that while the series stars four kids, “it's not a kid’s show."
The official synopsis for the series reads: "When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined."
During an interview with People Magazine, series star Jude Law talked about the story the series tells calling is “joyfull” and teases that fans will watch the kids "maneuver through" places where they shouldn't be and adds that "seeing children in that environment in a Star Wars environment is thrilling and very, very unique."
He added: "It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars, and there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There's a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it."
Law went on to talk about his younger co-stars saying they are "all in constant state of confusion and jeopardy and challenge." He explains that the series is "very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming...perhaps [one's] opinion of oneself or one's own weaknesses in order to succeed."
When talking about working with his younger co-stars, he said: "I had a wonderful time making this with everyone involved. Those four in particular who worked with me very closely were just great fun and incredibly professional, and I'm immensely proud to be a part of their crew."
Series creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford added: "Because he's with the kids all the time, he's also kind of felt like the co-director, co-producer with us and he's co-acting coach, you know, giving the kids tips, and they would look to him.
“He really became sort of a mentor figure to the kids as well. And he didn't have to do that, he just did that because it was nice and it would make things work great."
The children in the series are played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The episodes in the show will be directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, The Daniels, David Lowery, Jake Schreier, and Lee Isaac Chung. The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will executive produce.
The series is set to premiere on Disney+ by this Christmas. Check out the photos below.
