New Trailer For the Super-Powered Teen Thriller THE DARKEST MINDS
20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for their interesting looking film The Darkest Minds, which centers around a world where 98% of America's children are killed off from a disease that sweeps the nation. The surviving 2% end up developing superpowers and they are placed in internment camps.
The film comes from the producers of Stranger Things and Arrival and it was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who previously brought us Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3.
The story follows a 16-year-old girl who escapes from her camp and joins a group of other teens on the run from the government. As you'll see the story was heavily inspired by the X-Men comics. It tries to put its own spin on it, though and I like what I'm seeing in the trailer.
The film is based on a YA survival thriller novel by Alexandra Bracken and it stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Mandy Moore, Harris Dickinson, Wallace Langham, Golden Brooks, Mark O'Brien, Patrick Gibson, and Gwendoline Christie.
When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.
The Darkest Minds hits theaters on August 3, 2018.
