POWER RANGERS Tell POWER RANGERS Stories in ACROSS THE MORPHIN GRID #1
BOOM! Studios recently announced quite the treat for Power Rangers fans. While the long running series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is headed towards its finale, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t more stories to tell.
A new anthology comic titled Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid is set to release this October and it sounds like a real treat. Many of the stories come from previous Power Rangers themselves.
The full list of authors includes David Yost, Walter Jones, Steve Cardenas, Mat Groom, Nakia Burrise, JD Sutphin, and Meghan Camerana. By my count, five of the seven have been Power Rangers. They will be working with artists including Paulina Ganucheau, Tango, Patrick Mulholland, Domo Stanton, and Anand Ramcheron.
Yost shared:
A true honor to work with all the talented people at BOOM! Studios and to be asked to write a story based on my character, Billy. I had so much fun imagining where Billy would be at 28 years old. I trust fans will enjoy my story and all the various stories being told in this anthology. Let’s GoGo!
Cardenas mentioned that he’s working with Groom on his story:
I’m so excited that BOOM! Studios is expanding the Morphin Grid Anthology, and it looks like I’m next on the list! I’ve had the great privilege in the past to briefly work with BOOM! About Rocky and his background. But now to have the opportunity to create and collab and tell my own story is just a dream come true for me. I hope you enjoy what Mat and I came up with as a part of this new chapter!
Meanwhile, Burrise teased, “What ever happened to Tanya and Adam?” I’ll be honest. After rewatching the early seasons I really liked the pairing of Tanya and Adam and am all for exploring that. This one probably has me the most interested so far.
Sutphin shared his excitement:
As someone who as a child watched the first episode of Mighty Morphin live when it debuted; the Power Rangers have meant the world to me for over 30 years! BOOM! continues to cherish their legacy and validate the fans with incredible stories and phenomenal art that these characters deserve. To be able to add a little to their world is so truly meaningful and a full circle moment for me that I’ll never take for granted.
Camarena added:
Who doesn’t love a Hyperforce burrito?!. Chloe’s Chaos Kitchen has Chloe, accompanied by Sous Chef Vesper, cooking up some tasty and wild times. I had such an amazing time writing it and I hope it fills your hearts and bellies with big, out loud laughs.
Gancheau confirmed that she was working with Camarena:
Working on this short with Meghan has been pure joy and is such a bucket list project. I've loved Power Rangers my whole life so finally getting the chance to draw some comic pages, and adorable hilarious Pink Ranger starring pages at that, has been a dream!
Domo shared his excitement of working with Jones:
This project was a childhood dream come true. When I was a kid, I used to pretend to be the Black Ranger; now actually getting the opportunity to work with Walter Jones is just next level awesome.
Tango teased working with Burrise:
It’s been both a nostalgia trip and exciting new ground to be able to work on this small glimpse into Tanya’s future as a seasoned Ranger. And giving those nods to some of those relationships so core to her character.
Finally, Mulholland briefly shared some gratitude and excitement of working with Yost:
I am very grateful to be back in the grid with the Power Rangers. And who better to tell a personal story about the Blue Ranger than Billy Cranston himself, David Yost!
I think this is a really exciting comic for Power Rangers fans. The oversized issue will be available at local comic shops or wherever you like to buy comics on October 30 with pre-orders now available. The main cover art comes from Ejikure (Wild’s End) with variant covers by Riley Rossmo (Martian Manhunter), Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and Matt Taylor. What do you hope to see in Across the Morphin Grid and who would you want to see write a story if we get a second?
